Corporate Leadership

Colin McHugh, interim President & CEO

Gerry Vicenzi Colin assumed responsibility for Synernet’s day-to- day operations in June 2016 following the retirement of Gerry Vicenzi, its CEO for the previous 16 years. Colin is currently Senior Vice President, Network Development & Contracting at MaineHealth, the largest healthcare system in Maine. Previously Colin held several senior positions at Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Maine and New Hampshire, including Vice President of Provider Engagement and Contracting, Strategic Planning Director and Executive Director of Provider Network Management. Colin holds an MBA from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business and Economics as well as a Master of Arts in health services/allied health and health sciences from the University of Connecticut.


Allison McBrierty – Corporate Controller

Allison McBriertyAllison McBrierty, CPA, serves as the Corporate Controller of Synernet, Inc. In this role Allison is accountable for all financial management functions of the company as well as monitoring its internal controls to assure the effective oversight of the company’s fiduciary and financial risk. Allison is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Maine. Allison is a member of the Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Prior to joining Synernet in 2012, Allison worked for Baker Newman and Noyes, a local CPA firm, for 16 years.


Tom Caswell – Director of Sales & Marketing

tomTom Caswell serves as the Director of Sales & Marketing. For over 20 years Tom has used a creative process to help clients and organizations overcome challenges and uncover opportunities that return outstanding results. Tom has over 10 years of experience bringing healthcare solutions to market that improve efficiencies. Tom holds a BS in Marketing from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.


Credentials Verification Organization (CVO)


Cheryl Schilke - Director

Cheryl Schilke, RN, CPMSM, has developed and directed the Synernet CVO since 1999. She has over 30 years of experience in healthcare as a nurse, CVO Director, performance improvement, risk management and as a hospital medical staff coordinator. She has been involved in credentialing since 1992 and is the past President of the Maine Association for Medical Staff Services. Cheryl is a Certified Professional, Medical Staff Manager.


Rosemary Lyons - Program Manager, Synernet CVO

Rose Lyons, CPCS, has worked in hospital credentialing since 1996 and joined the staff of the CVO in 2000. She is a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist and is responsible for the verification of the application and is regularly in contact with the providers and the staff at the customer organizations regarding the providers' status.


Provider Enrollment Services


Debra Carter – Director, Provider Enrollment Services

Deb Carter, MS, CPMSM, CPCS, has worked in the healthcare industry since 1977 as a state surveyor for the NH PSRO, a nursing home consultant in the areas of process improvement and risk management, a practice manager and in hospital credentialing since 1997. She is a Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist and a Certified Professional Medical Staff Manager. Deb has held several offices in the Maine Association Medical Staff Services including President from 2010-2012. Deb earned her Master’s Degree in Health Policy and Management in 2009. She leads the Provider Enrollment Services (PES) team which is one of the fastest growing service lines at Synernet.


Terry Knight – Manager, Provider Enrollment Services

Terry Knight, CPC, has extensive in-depth experience in healthcare revenue cycle with a focus on contracting, billing and provider enrollment. She is a Certified Professional Coder and experienced practice manager who understands the myriad of steps, stakeholders and processes required to ensure contracted level of reimbursement . Terry leads a team of experienced enrollment specialists who work closely with clients to understand their challenges and identify solutions for reimbursement gaps in the revenue cycle.


Clinical Engineering


Mike Hutchins - Director

Mike Hutchins is the Director of Clinical Engineering Services. He is responsible for the overall direction, management, and financial performance of clinical engineering services. He brings over twenty years of experience in the marketing, sales, and development of technology and services in healthcare organizations. Mike holds a BS in Management from Babson College in Wellesley, MA.


John Deering - Technical Coordinator


John Deering is a Biomedical Technician who primarily services our growing list of Partner accounts throughout southern Maine as well as supplying back up assistance to the other technicians. John received biomedical training during his tenure with the New Hampshire Air National Guard and also serves as the tech for the Portsmouth Air Guard location.


Insurance Services


Lee Cyr - Director

Lee Cyr, CPCU, ARM, joined Synernet in March 2002 as Director, Insurance Services, and he is responsible for financial management, loss control services, claims administration, communications, training, and service for workers compensation services. He has over 30 years of experience in workers' compensation. He has been an active member of the Maine Workers' Compensation Coordinating Council since its inception in the mid-1980's, and currently serves as chair of the Maine Council of Self-Insurers and the Maine Self-Insurance Guaranty Authority.
