Synernet Announces Appointment of interim President & CEO

June 17, 2016

Colin McHugh, assumed responsibility for Synernet’s day-to- day operations in June 2016 following the retirement of Gerry Vicenzi, its CEO for the previous 16 years. Colin is currently Senior Vice President, Network Development & Contracting at MaineHealth, the largest healthcare system in Maine. Previously Colin held several senior positions at Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Maine and New Hampshire, including Vice President of Provider Engagement and Contracting, Strategic Planning Director and Executive Director of Provider Network Management.

"I want to thank Gerry for his outstanding work over more than 16 years with Synernet. Under his leadership, the organization grew into a leading provider of affiliated services to the healthcare industry in Maine and beyond,” said Bill Caron, president of MaineHealth. “We are all grateful for Gerry’s contributions to the organization,” said Dick Willett, chair of the Synernet board. “Gerry built Synernet into a dynamic and diverse organization, working closely with not only Maine hospitals and healthcare providers, but customers from across the country."

Prior to joining Synernet in 1999, Vicenzi served in senior management with the Greater Cleveland Hospital Association. Previously, he managed an independent consulting practice and served as vice president of support services and information services for Cleveland's Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Vicenzi holds a bachelors and master’s degree in management engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

Synernet leader announces retirement

Gerry Vicenzi, CEO of Synernet since 1999, has announced his retirement. For the past 16 years Vicenzi has led Synernet to become a leading provider of affiliated healthcare services in Maine and beyond. "We are all grateful for Gerry’s contributions to the organization," said Dick Willett, chair of the Synernet board. "Gerry built Synernet into a dynamic and diverse organization, working closely with not only Maine hospitals and healthcare providers, but customers from across the country."

Prior to joining Synernet in 1999, Vicenzi served in senior management with the Greater Cleveland Hospital Association. Previously, he managed an independent consulting practice and served as vice president of support services and information services for Cleveland's Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Vicenzi holds a bachelors and master’s degree in management engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

"After a highly successful career as a healthcare leader, Gerry is ready to move on to this next chapter, and we all wish him well," said Willett. Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Chose Synernet’s PES

Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, located in St. Petersburg, FL chose Synernet for Provider Enrollment Services. Named a top 50 children’s hospital by U.S. News & World Report, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital provides access to the most innovative treatments and therapies in a new 259 bed hospital that serves Florida’s West Coast and beyond.

"We are delighted to work with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital as part of their Lean initiative. As Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital grew the need arose for consultative and evaluation of the provider enrollment process with payors (insurances). As a Morrisey Associates technology partner, Synernet PES was able to provide Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital an audit of their Morrisey Associates platform and collaborate on utilization changes that produced immediate results."

Lee Cyr, Synernet’s Director of Insurance Services, has been appointed to the Board of Ruth’s Reusable Resources (3R’s) . 3R’s vision is “to provide every Maine Child with the variety and quality of supplies need to succeed in school.” During the 2014-2015 school year, Ruth’s gave over $4.3 million in supplies and products to Maine’s schools and non-profits. Since 1994, 3R’s has given away more than $56 million worth of surplus furniture, paper, books, office supplies and computers to schools and non-profits.

Synernet Workers Compensation Fund - Recognizes Mayo Regional Hospital with "Most Improved Member"

The Synernet Workers’ Compensation Fund presented Mayo Regional Hospital with its "Most Improved Member" award at its annual meeting in Rockland on September 17th. The award recognizes a member with the greatest reduction in its workers’ compensation injury costs from 2012 through June of 2015. Over that span of time, Mayo’s losses dropped by 70%, the largest reduction in the group.

In presenting the award, Lee Cyr, Director of Insurance Services at Synernet noted, "This type of improvement took the commitment of the entire organization at Mayo, and reflects their commitment to providing their employees with a safe work environment."

Synernet Workers Compensation Fund - Recognizes Maine Coast Memorial Hospital as its "Top Performer"

The Synernet Workers’ Compensation Fund presented Maine Coast Memorial Hospital with its "Top Performer" award at its annual meeting in Rockland on September 17th. The award is awarded to the member with consistently having some of the lowest employee injury costs in the group.

In presenting the award, Lee Cyr, Director of Insurance Services at Synernet noted,. "Maine Coast is our first back to back winner, having received the recognition in 2014 as well. This type of consistently low injury rates is a reflection of Maine Coast’s commitment to keeping their employees safe and healthy."

Synernet Attends 20th Annual Morrisey Technology and Educational Conference

Deb Carter, MS, CPMSM, CPCS, Manager of Provider Enrollment (PES) and Marty Neff, Data Analyst for the Synernet CVO and PES attended the 20th Annual Morrisey Technology and Educational Conference in Chicago, IL. While there Deb spoke about the obstacles Synernet faces dealing with many different Facilities and Insurance Programs/Products while maintaining the data integrity of each facility.

Synernet PES partners with Morrisey in the utilization of MSOW, the Apogee module, Forms Editor and reporting to manage the enrollment process. During this interactive discussion Deb discussed the utilization of Morrisey technology and lessons learned, while Marty touched on information gathering from reports he created to get Deb the information she needs.

Marty also took part in a separate panel discussion about report creation where panel members shared MSOW and Apogee reports, describing how they are used and distribution within their organization as well as an "under the covers" look into how the report(s) were written. Marty presented his report work for the Synernet CVO with respect to the National Football League and National Football League Players Association credentialing of providers.

Synernet Medical Transcription – Record Month

Synernet’s team of 200+ medical transcriptionists located in 31 states across the U.S. achieved a new transcribed ‘line count" record month in April – 5,843,291/lines. With clients in 8 states (AZ, KY, ID, ME, MI, NH, NY, VT) and the addition of 2 large clients in 2015, Synernet is forecasting a record year for medical transcription in 2015. "Our line volume continues to grow while the turnaround time requirements of dictated reports continues to get tighter and tighter. Our team of medical transcriptionists, supervisors, QA coordinators, application engineers and management do an incredible job of collaborating to ensure fast, accurate (98+%) reports reach the providers." Synernet Information Technology Presents at Annual Maine Technologies User Group Summit

Synernet’s Michael Michaud, Senior Director of Information Technology and Danton Brown, Infrastructure Engineer presented Hyperconverged Technology at the Annual Maine Technologies Users Group (MTUG) Information Technology Summit and Tradeshow on May 28th.
Michaud and Brown presented a peer focused discussion on research, decision making, implementation and experiences with the hyperconverged technology solution, SimpliVity. The focus of the presentation was strictly from a customer’s point-of-reference and was designed to help IT professionals work through considerations and processes when adopting this new and upcoming technology.

Synernet Workers’ Compensation Fund Surplus - Return $3.8 million

The Synernet Workers’ Compensation Fund announced recently that it is returning $3,800,000 as a surplus return for 2014. This represents a 58% return on the premium paid by its members in 2014. This brings the total return since the program was created in 1991 to nearly $40,000,000. "This return is due to the combined efforts of all the members of the program in reducing workplace injuries and returning injured employees to an early, safe return to work", notes Lee J. Cyr, CPCU, ARM, Director of Insurance Services at Synernet, Inc. "A large part of the reduction in losses has been due to an initiative to reduce the leading cause of injuries in healthcare, the lifting and movement of patients. Since this initiative started in 2009, injuries related to patient handling have dropped by more than 50%". The Synernet Workers' Compensation Fund is one of the longest standing Workers’ Compensation Self Insurance Group Programs in Maine with 14 member hospitals in Maine.

Synernet strategic initiative to bring process improvement and Lean Principles to all aspects of the organization started in 2014. In 2015, Deb Carter, Lead on Corporate Process Improvement, completed the 2015 Lean in Healthcare Certificate Program held at Beverly Hospital in Beverly, Massachusetts. "I’m passionate about change, process improvement, leveraging technology and implementing Lean Principles. The certificate program brought together a diverse group of healthcare professionals who shared their challenges, ideas and worked together to develop solutions within the framework of Lean. It was a very rewarding experience. Our next step is the implantation corporate wide of Lean’s guiding principles." stated Deb. "Lean principles work in every industry and work setting. Healthcare specifically is ripe for Lean initiatives on many levels. St. Joseph Hospital Chose Synernet’s Coding Services

St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH chose Synernet to provide coding services for patient records and encounters. Maine Medical Center Radiology chose Synernet to provide medical transcription services for radiology within the Dolbey Co. Fusion System utilized throughout for MMC PAC system.. Synernet will provide 100% U.S based transcriptionists and management as part of an agreement that will maintain the turnaround time on reports that is vital for patient care while collaborating on process improvement. Tom Caswell, Director of Sales & Marketing, explained the hiring of the current transcription staff is a major component of the project. "Synernet is excited to partner with Maine Medical Center Radiology and Dolbey, Co. on this project. Maine Medical Center is a nationally recognized Level 1 Trauma Center hospital with an extensive PAC system that requires strict adherence to turnaround times. Synernet Staff Visit NFL Headquarters

February 11, 2015

Synernet has been providing credentialing services to the NFL since the Fall of 2013. As part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the NFL and NFLPA established player health and safety initiatives including the credentialing of Club (Team) based physicians and independent specialists. All the providers employed by NFL Clubs or independent physicians employed by the NFL are required to go through a credentialing process. The NFL and NFLPA have contracted with Synernet to provide credentialing services.

Protective Insurance Chose Synernet’s Insurance Services

January 25, 2015

Protective Insurance Company, based in Indiana, chose Synernet to provide assistance with workers’ compensation claim filings in Maine. With relatively few claims in the State of Maine, Protective found it very challenging to comply with Maine’s claims filing requirements. "Maine has some of the most stringent filing requirements for workers’ compensation claims in the country, and missing those filing requirements can mean hefty fines and penalties", states Lee Cyr, Director of Insurance Services at Synernet. NFL and NFLPA Chose Synernet’s CVO

The National Football League and NFL Players Association chose Synernet’s CVO to verify the credentials of the practitioners who comprise each of the 32 NFL clubs’ medical roster – physicians, athletic trainers, nutritionists, psychologists and physical therapists. Synernet’s credentials verification process follows industry standards, state regulations and best practices. Synernet was able to create and generate a custom credentialing summary report to meet the specific needs of the NFL and NFLPA.

Steve Callahan Joins Synernet as IT Application Engineer

Steve Callahan joined Synernet as IT Application Engineer with a focus on Dolbey Fusion. Callahan comes to Synernet from Hannaford/Delhaize America where he held roles as a System Services Specialist focusing on the implementation and administration of an enterprise wide asset management solution and most recently as an engineer deploying and supporting new servers for the 1500 retail stores. He brings a wealth of knowledge to Synernet including Windows Server/desktop administration, Active Directory, VMWare, Hyper V, security, audit compliance and programming languages. Northern Maine Medical Center Receives Top Ratings for Second Consecutive Year

Millis Blackburn Perry, RHIA, CCS, CPC

January 6, 2014

Millis Blackburn Perry re-joined Synernet to lead the organization's Coding Services division. Millis brings more than 25 years of experience in health information management in various areas of the healthcare profession. Prior to joining Synernet, Millis spent several years as HIM Director and Privacy Officer at Mid Coast Hospital, Parkview Adventist Medical Center, Spring Harbor Hospital and Maine Mental Health Partners. She also has experience in a physician practice setting, home health care, and physical therapy/medical fitness facility as well as the corporate industrial clinic setting. Millis holds a BS in Health Information Management from the University of Cincinnati and is a certified professional coder with a focus on revenue cycle management.
